3 WAYS TO FROST A CUPCAKE

#1
THE CLASSIC SWIRL

Close your eyes. Picture a cupcake. 9/10 times you picture one with a CLASSIC SWIRL. (1/10 picture a cupcake with no frosting. Don’t ask me why.)

The most basic way to frost a cupcake. The classic mountainous peak are equal parts frosting and cupcake. It has a balance of simple elegance to the design.

The technique used is not only applicable for piping frosting but soft serve ice cream and frozen yogurt as well. Tell Dairy Queen I sent you.

STEP 1: Start by positioning your piping bag centered, just above your cupcake. Your bag and piping tip should be straight up and facing down.

STEP 2: Slowly squeeze your frosting in a swirl moving clockwise until fill ¾ of the cupcake – almost to the edge.

STEP 3: Without breaking the swirl, continue to pipe the frosting on top of the first layer and work your way up until you make a small frosting peak. Enjoy!

TIP: The first layer of swirl base is to ensure that your frosting mountain does not collapse inward.

#2 THE ROSETTE

A design that is simultaneously modern and classic. This design will give you the confidence to say “Hey! I don’t need a man to buy me roses! I can just make my own!!” You’re welcome.

STEP 1: Start by positioning your piping bag centered just above your cupcake.

STEP 2: Slowly squeeze your frosting in a swirl moving clockwise until you frost the cupcake to the edge. Enjoy!

#3 THE KISS

This piping design is fun and whimsical. These soft whisps look playful and quaint. Adults and kids will love and enjoy the design equally.

STEP 1: Starting at the outer edge of your cupcake, position your piping bag down.

STEP 2: In short bursts pipe out a dollop and lift up.

STEP 3: work your way around the cupcake until you fill the entire cupcake with dollop kisses! Enjoy!

With a bowl of icing and a little practice, you’ll be a piping pro!

Give it a try and don’t forget to tag me in any of your photos. =)
